Sedition charges on Navjot Singh Sidhu

Navjot Singh Sidhu has been slammed with a sedition suit for hugging Pakistan Army Chief Qamar Javed Bajwa, in the swearing-in ceremony of Imran Khan as the Prime Minister of Pakistan. The case has been filed by Sudhir Kumar Ojha, a lawyer from Bihar, who has alleged that the Congress leader from Punjab has insulted the Indian Army by his actions.

The lawyer, known for indicting various celebrities, has stated in his petition that Sidhu has disgraced the families of Indian soldiers who were killed by the Pakistani soldiers and terrorists by hugging General Bajwa and sitting next to Masood Khan, who is the president of Pakistan occupied Kashmir.

He has further stated that the actions of the Congress leader are undignified since the country is still mourning the death of former Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He has also blamed Sidhu for having let down the country before Pakistan and insulting the soldiers like Lance Naik Paramjeet Singh, whose body was desecrated in Kashmir last year by the Pakistan Army.

The Chief Minister of Punjab has stated that Sidhu has attended the ceremony in his personal capacity and it had nothing to do with the Congress party. He also criticized Sidhu for hugging the Pakistan Army Chief.

Sidhu has stated in his defense that he hugged the Pakistan Army Chief because he was told that Pakistan may allow direct access to Sikh Pilgrims to the Gurudwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur during Guru Nanak’s 550th birth anniversary celebrations next year. He has also stated that he was invited as the guest of honor and was asked to sit next to Masood Khan.
